About Beijing Zoo & Panda House

The Beijing Zoo is a zoological park in Beijing, located in Xicheng District. Founded in 1906, it is one of the oldest zoos in China and has one of the largest animal collections in the country. The zoo is home to over 500 species of land animals and over 500 species of marine animals, with a total of more than 14,000 animals.

The most famous residents are the giant pandas, housed in the specially designed Panda House. The Beijing Zoo is a center of research in China for breeding rare and endangered animals, and has had notable success in breeding giant pandas, golden monkeys, and Chinese alligators.

The zoo is set in a beautiful park with lakes, gardens, and historic buildings dating back to the Qing dynasty. In addition to the main zoo, there is a large aquarium (Beijing Aquarium) with dolphin shows and underwater tunnels, which requires a separate admission ticket.
