10 days is enough for a solid Beijing itinerary: Great Wall (Mutianyu), Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, hutongs, 798 Art District, plus a day trip to Tianjin or Chengde. Add Xi'an by high-speed train if your transit routing allows.
